Events 2014

The CPPR Association was officially born in June 2014. But since the end of 2013, the co-founders had already been working on the "panda project". They went to the AFSA (Association Francophone de Soigneurs Animaliers) conference at Amnéville zoo in March 2014 to present their project: why choose the red panda (an animal that is little known and unfortunately in danger of extinction in the wild), why create the CPPR, the association's objective and the missions they have set themselves to achieve this objective. In short, a complete presentation of what was soon to become "Know and Protect the Red Panda", with a focus on the "Red Panda Network" (RPN), the American association that has been working for years in Nepal, and that the co-founders of the CPPR were keen to support. They ended by mentioning the International Red Panda Day (IRPD), a special event created by the RPN, which takes place on the third Saturday of September since 2010.

In October 2014, the CPPR co-founders attended the first Red Panda Workshop organised by the Association of British and Irish Wild Animal Keepers (ABWAK) at the Paradise Wildlife Park in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, England. The programme included presentations by zookeepers from various zoos on the design of their enclosures, diet and medical training, as well as presentations on the conservation of this species in general and in the field. Finally, group discussions were held on the different rations, breeding and veterinary problems that may be encountered.

It was also an opportunity for the co-founders of the CPPR to meet Nikki Boyd, the President of the RPN, and Angela Glatston, the coordinator of the GSMP (Global Species Management Plan) for the red panda, and to introduce them to the fledgling association they had just created, marking the beginnings of what would later become a real partnership.
