Events 2015

In 2015, the CPPR had the opportunity to intervene in different institutions in order to make the red panda known to a public of all ages.

The first of these interventions took place at the Clères Leisure Centre (CLSH) on 19 October 2015. Anne-Gwenaël, our vice-president, went there to raise awareness among the children about nature conservation in general, and the red panda in particular. The centre welcomes children from 4 to 14 years old, and several fun activities were carried out according to the different age groups: reading of stories, drawings, games of differences, word scramble for the youngest; workshop on the conservation of endangered species for the older children, who enjoyed answering and asking questions.

Following this intervention in the CLSH, the activity leaders set up "red panda" workshops, enabling the children to create an awareness-raising panel installed in the Clères library, as well as an information booklet on the red panda. The youngest children were able to play "nanny" by taking turns to look after a little stuffed panda, or by making masks and cakes.

The event was a real success.

This was followed by our first participation in the Fondation le Pal Nature day, which took place in the animal and amusement park le Pal on 25 October. The aim of this event is to introduce visitors to a large number of associations working for the conservation of endangered species, by bringing these organisations together in the "animal" part of the park. The special feature of the day is that visitors are given access to the animal part of the park shortly after the official closing of the site, thus focusing the visit on raising awareness of the wildlife.

The staff who help with the organisation are volunteers who are members of the Foundation. The aim is also to raise funds which are then used by Pal Nature to support a maximum number of projects in the field.

Each association can therefore set up a stand representing it and propose activities and/or offer to sell its items in the shop. The CPPR volunteers, Marine, Stéphanie, Benjamin and Hélène, were ideally installed in front of the red pandas' enclosure.

The stand consisted of our awareness-raising panels, distribution of flyers, sale of "red panda" educational booklets, a donation box and membership forms for obtaining a CPPR sticker, and a colouring table available to young and old.

The public was so numerous that the day was extended to allow as many people as possible to take part in the activities proposed on each stand and, of course, to enjoy the visit of the park.

The day allowed CPPR members to exchange with other volunteers from the associations present as well as with the project manager of the Fondation le Pal Nature, Maude Leplay, and to set up a long-term collaboration!

On 20 November, Anne-Gwenaël, accompanied by Alexandre, was once again invited to lead a workshop at the Lycée des métiers Jean Rostand in Offranville with students from the second year of secondary school and the CAP.

With deforestation as the theme, the presentation was divided into two parts: a presentation and a board game. The presentation allowed for an exchange with the students on the subject: definition and role of forests, impact of deforestation in general, with a focus on the red panda, restoration and protection of forests at all levels. The board game allowed students to develop their knowledge in a fun way. Divided into two teams, students had to obtain trees, or avoid losing trees, by answering questions, obtaining bonuses and avoiding the "malus" or "deforestation" boxes.

The activity made the students aware of the seriousness of the problem, and for some of them it was a wake-up call about the importance of protecting the world's forests. A positive and encouraging outcome!
